With the government shutdown of drilling in the Gulf of Mexico, oil prices have steadily risen, causing more and more people to look into alternative fuels and methods of obtaining energy. One of these focuses on the oldest source of heat and light: the sun.

Solar energy has long been a dream of man like finding the best direct tv deals, and has been experimented with to some degree or another for hundreds of years. With the awakening of environmental consciousness in the 1970s, aided by the OPEC embargo and a fuel shortage, solar power finally got its chance to shine and entered the world as a viable energy source.

Solar power is gathered by photovoltaic cells, like those seen in this picture. The cells individually gather energy and convert it through a process to alternating current which can be used to power any number of electronics. The sun gives off massive amounts of energy on every square meter of earth, which means that if we can figure out the right way of doing it, humanity could have limitless erengy fed from the sun.

Today, solar panels can be seen on traffic lights, personal homes, Air Force bases, and lots of other places. Generally speaking, solar energy is not yet worth the hassle. Consumers pay about $1.80 per kilowatt/hour, although Nellis Air Force Base manages it for a fraction of that cost. However, with more and more attention being directed towards research and useage of solar energy, the future hopefully holds an economically sensible way of replacing much of the world’s oil consumption with energy from the sun.

Environmental Protection, Market Relief

It’s an all too familiar tragedy: the economy stumbles, unable to sustain itself; a recession begins, siphoning away profits (as well as consumer hope); and all companies scramble to keep themselves from crashing each quarter. Money seems fragile. Products seem weak. It’s a pattern that develops quickly — and remains for far too long.

There is a change occurring, however: with economic disasters countered and dollars gaining strength. The arrival of green businesses — companies that utilize environmentally aware methods and support conservation — has sparked a new trend within the market. And success is slowly being rediscovered.

Green businesses were once uncommon. Most corporations were content to rely on carbon and electricity, refused to consider the effects of over-indulging. Now, however, the potential of such indulgence is understood — and responsibility must be taken. This has caused a transformation in company practices: resulting in safer materials, a lessened need for natural resources… and a strengthening of the economy.

Observation of UFX Markets Trading has proven a recent increase of sales and productivity. Businesses offering green methods boast a 42 percent profit gain within the last five years (as of 2011). Consumers purchase their products with greater frequency, and a new niche has been carved in the economy — stimulating weak currencies and creating support.

And this can’t be denied by companies: especially those still struggling to gain the necessary dollars. Choosing to align themselves with conservation is a guarantee of success: with the public twice as likely to consider goods or services that are green.

Environmental protection is a value — in more ways than one.

Future fuels for future cars

Electricity and hybrid powered vehicles are becoming more common on roads just as oil prices top $US120 a barrel and as public perception on alternate fuels change.

A major push to modernize the way vehicles are propelled began in 2007-2008 when oil prices shot past $US100 a barrel. With political tensions in the Middle East – particularly in Libya, a significant producer of high quality light, sweet crude oil – unlikely to be resolved anytime soon, and amid a record commodities boom, the price of oil is not expected to fall in the near future.

Current alternative fuels available include ethanol, ultra-low sulphur diesel and bio-fuel. Companies such as Exxon Mobil and Qantas Airways are both supporting developmental algae jet fuels, while working prototypes have been built that run on hydrogen and nitrogen.

Other options include a nuclear-fueled vehicle, although after the radiation scares at Japan’s Fukushima nuclear power plants following the tsunami, this method may not be so palatable in the near to medium term.

Electric cars are already on the market thanks to car makers such as Tesla, Mitsubishi, Zap, General Electric and Chevrolet Electric.

While ethanol and hybrid fuels are becoming commonly available at petrol stations, the main problem for electric cars is where batteries can be charged. The hotel industry is leading the ‘charge’ here by offering charging stations for the public and/or guests. Sheraton Hotels in Montreal and Toronto started offering public charge stations in December 2010, the Ritz-Carlton in Charlotte, N.C. launched a charge station in February and New Zealand’s Hotel So in Christchurch has offered the an electric car charger since mid-2010.

Advantages Of The Alternative Power

The power that is consumed by humans can be the cause of many problems that are seen in the environment. The main reason for the problems that are caused is that the fuels that are used by humans can lead to the warming of the environment. The environment that becomes warm all around us can be the main problem in global warming. This can lead to the seas and the oceans having more water because of the melting of the ice caps in the polar region. As the water level rises, there are many low lying countries that can be inundated.

It is very important that the global warming is prevented in the bid to save the environment. The best method that can be used in the bid to save the environment is to make sure that the fossil fuels are avoided and the various alternative power sources are used. There are many online colleges that are offering courses online on renewable energy and sources. This is because of the advantages that are related to the use of these sources of power. The main advantage of the alternative power source is that the power that is produced in this method does not cause any harm to the environment. This will also prevent the warming of the environment because of the fact that heat is not a byproduct of the consumption of the alternative power source.

The alternative power sources are called as the green energy because of the fact that they help in the preservation of the environment and do not cause any damage to the environment. If all the people around the world are able to use this alternative power sources, then the world will be a better place to live in and we can save the environment.

Living the Green Life

Energy is a hot topic around the world. From energy conservation to alternative energy sources, the subject of energy is addressed daily. One of the reasons that energy is such a hot topic is because fossil fuels are being depleted. Once the fossil fuels are gone, society will no longer be able to create energy from them. The environment is also a concern. The creation of energy from fossil fuels has damaged the environment. People are realizing that by living “greener”, they can help save the environment.

Living the green life can be accomplished by making efforts to conserve energy. You can also do your part to utilize alternative sources of energy. Solar power, wind power and water power are just a few of the ways you can have clean energy. As for conserving energy, there is a variety of ways you can conserve. You can start by having your home evaluated for energy usage. Making needed repairs can end up saving energy and saving you money. You would be surprised by how much heat and air conditioning escapes windows and doors. Simple repairs can eliminate this problem.

When it comes to using an alternative source of energy, consider solar panels. Having solar panels installed on your home will provide you with energy created by the sun. While the cost of the panels and installation may be high, they will pay for themselves over time in energy savings. You can also see what tax credits are available for making your home energy efficient. The government recently implemented a program that gave rebates to people that purchased Energy Star appliances. Check with your state for information on this and other programs that encourage consumers to save energy.

If every person does one or two things to help conserve energy, the world will be a better place. Going green is not difficult. It just takes time, commitment and effort.

Ways to Conserve Energy

Finding ways to use energy in a more conservative manner should be a priority for every person in the country. As the fossil fuels are being depleted, it is necessary to find alternative energy sources. Since the average person is not normally capable of creating their own energy, it becomes their job to conserve the energy they use. This can be done in a variety of ways, starting with energy-saving appliances.

Replacing your old appliances with new one will often save energy and money. Energy Star appliances are some of the best appliances on the market because they are designed to use the least amount of energy and save you the most money. You can find Energy Star appliances at any home improvement store and the prices are just as affordable as other appliances.

Another way to conserve energy is to buy a hybrid car. Hybrid cars utilize electricity and gasoline to power their motors. These cars are designed to have plenty of power so consumers will not have to sacrifice performance. These cars get very good fuel mileage and they come in plenty of different styles, from small to large models. Hybrid cars are quickly becoming the most efficient way to travel from one place to another.

Finally, you can use the internet to find other ways to conserve energy. Searching for the latest energy news will show you exactly what is going on in the world of energy. You will find useful tips and advice on ways to conserve. From recycling to simply shutting off lights, every little bit helps. By doing your part to conserve energy, you are helping to save those precious fossil fuels. Until other alternative energy sources become widespread, it is up to the consumers to conserve the energy used today. With time, effort and a bit of research, everyone can do his or her part to make the world a better place for future generations.

Green Friendly Appliances: What you Should Know

Green friendly appliances might be purchased more often in the near future since they afford consumers with more effective methods of utilizing energy’s resources. For many people, “going green” can be synonymous with major lifestyle changes. In actuality, subtle changes can make huge differences.

Eco-friendly fans are available to help circulate hot air emitted from wood-burning stoves. During the cold winter months, these can be especially useful because it can help reduce the necessity to raise the thermostat. They don’t need any electrical wiring or batteries, since placing the fan directly on the range produces the heat necessary to make the generator run. Some fan models may benefit wood-burning stoves by increasing the temperature. Therefore we can utilize less wood, which results in cutting down fewer trees.

“Green” enthusiasts that suffer from chronic hay fever might consider purchasing ionic air cleaners that only require changing a carbon filter once each decade. While that might not matter much to the vast majority, two filters approximately every 10 years seems financially advantageous.

If you recall hearing Madonna’s debut album the last time a new refrigerator entered the house, consider purchasing a new unit. Refrigerators conserve energy best when they are more diminutive in size and lack an icemaker. Larger units with more capabilities require more energy overall and will have to work harder to keep things cool. If you have an icemaker, try to use it just on special occasions. Some of us enjoy the more upscale “Mercedes-Benz” refrigerators, but ice makers can use up to 25 percent more energy than simpler models available on the market.

It might require more methodical thinking, but you may want to evaluate whether or not your washer and dryer “measure up.” If you’re not sure what to buy, some washers and dryers are bigger so that more laundry can be done at one time which reduces the need for more frequent wash loads. Consequently, green friendly appliances offer much more.

Cleaning and its Impact on Environment

Though many of us enjoy the convenience of having commercially prepared cleaning products available, we should thoughtfully consider their impact on environment health. Consider a factory’s energy and resources necessary to manufacture a plastic container for a gallon of window cleaning liquid (not including the cleaning agent).

With the myriad of cleaning agents cluttering the bathroom or kitchen cabinets, it’s easy to get lost in the kerfuffle of “which one is better.” Since few of us may take the time to examine the ingredients in our cleaning stash, the simple act of breathing could be problematic without a mask. The very idea of using gloves to protect the skin can seem a little over-the-top for quick cleaning jobs.

We can utilize our own research and ingenuity to produce homemade disinfecting concoctions. Many retailers carry empty bottled containers and spray nozzles. Some homeowners may elect to keep four common items in stock right in the pantry including vinegar, lemon and baking soda.

Remember that using a spray bottle containing vinegar is equally effective without inhaling toxic fumes. If your bathroom tiles, caulking and toilet are crying for attention, it might be a logical decision to grab the bleach. Using vinegar in the shower and within the toilet bowl can help naturally to prevent mildew and lime scale buildup.

Lemon juice acts as a “green” antiseptic option, requiring minimal effort. To save money, many people can find it useful to use it as a tarnish preventative when mixed with ordinary dish soap. The combination of olive oil and lemon may serve as a potent furniture polish. Leave no nook and cranny of the garbage disposal unrefreshed and grind that lemon peel for an instant scent of clean.

Before you run the store to pick up a new bottle of dish detergent take some baking soda and dab it onto a freshly-cut lemon. Save time and money by remembering the impact on our environment. Make cleansers for yourself.

3 Easy Ways to Conserve Energy at Home

Energy efficiency is an important part of life. Many people see energy efficiency as a way to save money, yet it is also a way to conserve the Earth’s resources and help the environment. There are many easy ways to conserve energy, as a quick Internet search will show, but here are 5 easy ways to conserve energy at home.

1. Air Out Your Laundry
During the warmer months of Spring and Summer, hang your clothes outside to dry. All you need is a rope tied off at each end, with space in the middle to hang your laundry. When you skip the clothes dryer just a few months of the year, you will save around $75 per year. Those living in regions where it is warmer more often will save even more money.

2. Unplug and Turn Off
What many people don’t realize is that when you turn off your electronic devices, such as the TV, coffee maker, toaster oven, and cell phone charger, they still drain power. Tests have shown that 75% of the electricity used by a household is consumed while electrical gadgets are actually turned off, but not unplugged .You can save a bundle by unplugging your electrical items when not in use. To make it easier on devises that have a lot of plugs and connections, use a power strip with an off switch and that works just as well as unplugging the items from the wall.

3. Treat Your Windows
What a great way to freshen up a room’s décor and save money! Choose long window treatments that will cover the entire window and keep more heat or cool air inside your home. It may be surprising to hear that up to 16 percent of the heat in your home can escape through windows? Keep the drapes closed as much as possible to get the greatest benefits. For a little more money, purchase energy efficient or room darkening drapes.

Plant Trees for Energy Savings and Cleaner Air

Unless you live in a fast-paced city where trees are few and far between, you might be accustomed to taking trees for granted. In reality, trees do a great deal for the environment. They improve the quality of the air in your neighborhood. Trees give birds and wildlife a comfortable place to land. They even store rain water and decrease runoff from storms. Most important for your pocketbook, trees protect your home against extreme temperatures, helping to lower your energy bill.

How Trees Improve Air Quality

Having your home surrounded by trees is an excellent way to clean the air. Tree leaves act as a filter for the air that you breathe. They remove dust and other particles from the air, which are then washed to the ground when it rains. Trees give off oxygen to help you breathe better. They also absorb substances from the air such as carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and ozone. Planting trees is an excellent way to achieve cleaner air while simultaneously doing your part to slow down the process of global warming.

Trees Protect you from the Elements

Trees moderate the impact on you and your home from climactic changes and the elements. Some trees can effectively break the force of heavy winds. Trees can act as a protection against hail and sleet. During heavy rain, trees absorb water and reduce the likelihood of flooding.

The Impact of Trees on Your Energy Bill

Planting trees around your home in strategic locations can help to reduce your energy bill. During the winter, the existence of trees outside windows helps to break the force of wind, keeping your home freer of drafts and cold. In the summer, trees outside a large window can block the impact of extremely hot temperatures. When your home is protected in this way, you have to resort less to your heating and cooling units. As a result, your energy usage and costs will be lower.
